The Journey Home

By: Aicha Foster

Jackie Roberson jr, executive director of the Family Children and Community Association located in downtown Meadville, was born in Buffalo, NY to a single mother. A third generation pastor, he found solace within the church, having been raised a non dominational Christian. He started preaching when he was 8 years old, and by age 19 he was fully ordained. Jackie fully prepared to have a life in Buffalo with his family, and his wife Heather until something happened that changed the trajectory of his whole life.

In 2020 the world shut down, people lost their jobs, their lives, and everyone was faced with uncertainty. Jackie found himself faced with a challenging choice: stay in Buffalo, the only home he'd ever known, or move to Meadville PA, with his son and wife Heather, who was pregnant at the time. Unexpectedly Heather’s father, Rudolph Moore, made him promise that he would move to Meadville with Heather and so Jackie decided to make good on his promise, and found a job at the FCCA then called the Family Community and Christian Association. Jackie found success almost immediately, rising through the ranks until he was offered the executive director position. Ever since then he has dedicated his time to serving the Meadville community. He is responsible for changing the name of the FCCA to Family Children and Community Center, to signify inclusion to the community members. He is also responsible for creating the developing greatness program, which aims to serve disadvantaged youth and help guide their lives and give them the tools necessary to make something of themselves.

Now, Jackie dedicates his time to his loving wife Heather, whom he deems responsible for his success, and developing strategies to help build Meadville's economy, and create a legacy to leave for the next generation.
